Creating a Side Hustle in Nutrition

by | Dec 31, 2019 | Business and Entrepreneurship

When Jess Goff started working with us at The Happy PharmD, she was feeling desperate to get out of her pharmacy job. She felt unsatisfied by the work she was doing but wasn’t sure how to approach a career change.

“I wasn’t sure how to make a change in an intelligent and slow way due to financial stressors. I couldn’t up and quit my pharmacy job.”

After meeting with her coach and going through The Happy PharmD program, Jess was able to start a side hustle in order to make a transition from her full-time position and to ultimately have more satisfaction with her career.

Now, Jess “has the courage and ability to critically think about my current situation. I am actively working towards completely changing my career and working nontraditionally.” She has specific goals and is taking action on them.

When asked what she would tell someone who was considering coaching, Jess replied “If you are considering leaving pharmacy, that choice is intimidating. Do the discovery call to see if it is a good fit for you. Having a coach who is there for you and can brainstorm with you will help to create an organized plan vs. having flight of ideas.”

Jess’ plans in the near future are to grow her business to a point that it financially sustains her in the next 3 years.

“I am working towards becoming a nutritional therapy consultant and health coach. Coming from a managed care background, I felt a disconnect between seeing many sick people who aren’t getting better or thriving. There is a massive amount of money that goes into healthcare that isn’t incredibly effective. I want to help people feel healthy and thrive, not simply be alive.”

Jess explained that pharmacy training doesn’t provide enough nutrition and lifestyle training.

“I felt a moral disconnect. I wanted to support healthy lifestyles, but in the past I have felt like people will think less of me for not being a full time pharmacist anymore. I want you do know that it is OK for pharmacy to not be enough for you.”
